These grilled cheese roll-ups make a delicious snack or easy meal for busy weeknights. Both kids and adults will love these!

We all need an easy meal we can throw together last minute. This delicious spin on a traditional grilled cheese sandwich is great as a side to soup or as a main meal, or even snack.
Types Of Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups
You can make a grilled cheese roll-up any way you like. There are a lot of additions that many folks will enjoy. Here are some examples you might want to try.
Plain Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups
To make these plain, like a regular grilled cheese sandwich, the only thing you’ll put on the bread is cheese. Use your favorite cheese in either sliced or shredded. But slices tend to be a little less messy with the roll-up process and give you more even coverage.
Bacon Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups
If you want to add bacon to these roll-ups, you’ll want to fully cook it separately. It will not cook inside the roll-up.
That being said, do not cook it until it’s crispy unless you plan on smashing up the bacon into bacon bits and sprinkling them on. Otherwise, cook them until done but still pliable so they are easy to roll up in the bread.
Pesto Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups
This recipe, as well as the video below, shows the use of pesto. This is optional but delicious. I used about one teaspoon of pesto per slice of bread.

Best Bread For Grilled Cheese
This is subjective and will depend on what bread you enjoy most. But for a grilled cheese roll-up, you’ll want sliced bread that is somewhat soft for easy rolling. Hardier bread won’t work well here.
You can make this with or without the crusts.
Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups
If you want to make these in an air fryer to cut down on fats, give each roll up a very light spritz of oil with an oil sprayer.
Air fry for 1 minute from a cold air fryer if your air fryer has a warm-up period. Include the warmup in the cooking process.
If your air fryer does not have a warm-up process, then air fry for 1½ to 2 minutes.
What You’ll Need
This recipe is for a single roll-up. Multiply the recipe by however many you want to make.
Bread – You can leave the crusts on or cut them off. A soft, clean, whole grain bread is best.
Sliced cheese – You can use your favorite, but cheddar or mozzarella work best.
Prepared basil pesto – Again, this is optional but delicious, particularly with mozzarella cheese.
Oil or butter – as much as needed for cooking
How To Make Grilled Cheese Roll-Ups
Assembling The Roll Up

Using a rolling pin, roll your slice of bread as thin as you can get it.

If using pesto, smear it on the bread.

Line up your slice of cheese with the bottom of your slice of bread, then roll it up tightly like a carpet.

Skillet Instructions

Add some oil or butter to the pan and cook the roll up, turning it frequently as it cooks, until it is brown all the way around and the cheese is melted.
Air Fryer Instructions
Spritz the roll up with an oil sprayer, using a very light spray. Set the roll in your air fryer and air fry for one minute.
Serving

Serve this with a bowl of soup or with marinara for a dip!
