Middle Eastern Grilled Chicken Rub

This middle eastern grilled chicken rub turns that boring, grilled  chicken breast into something pretty special!

I eat a lot of chicken. And sometimes, I wonder how many different ways I can possibly prepare it.

Two pieces of golden-brown, grilled chicken sit seasoned, just of the grill, with this Middle Eastern Grilled Chicken Rub.

I mean, I know the possibilities are pretty endless, but chicken is just one of those things that can draw a blank for me sometimes. I mean really, how many different ways are there to prepare chicken????

Well, thankfully, I found one more. This was the absolute best chicken I’ve made so far. Mini Chef didn’t say much, he just ate. So I guess that’s a compliment coming from a picky 4 year old.

I loved it too and was grateful to have something different again. I’ve been making a lot of baked Tarragon Chicken lately, and it was starting to get boring. Thank goodness for spice rubs! The possibilities truly are endless!

MIDDLE EASTERN FLAVORS

Middle eastern flavors are a heady experience. They are rich, earthy, and definitely pack a punch in the flavor department. They can include any number or combination of spice, with common combinations including spices like, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, cumin and more.

Oh boy, the possibilities are endless!

  • Potatoes

  • Roasted carrots
  • Tabbouleh

Truly, the list could go on and on. A quick google search for “Middle Eastern Side Dishes” will bring up a whole new world of side dish ideas, most of them being pretty darn healthy!

  2. I don’t have cloves on hand, and really want to try this for dinner. Would it change the taste a lot if I left it out?

    1. graciouspantry says:

Yes, it would I’m afraid. But it might still be tasty!

  5. Wow, just had this chicken for dinner, and it was great! Didn’t have coriander so just added some freshly ground black pepper in its place. I was afraid that the chicken would taste like cinnamon, but it didn’t at all. It had a very delicate smoky taste and reminds me of the chicken at my favorite greek food place. Loved it!

Natasha – That’s awesome! It’s definitely a milder flavor, but I loved it too!

  6. graciouspantry says:

Lauren – I served mine with a salad. But you could serve with brown rice and veggies, maybe some naan. I’ll have a pita bread recipe coming up again soon too.

  18. Would this still taste good cold? I’m making salads for work lunches and am wondering if I could get away without the bother of using the microwave.

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

      I think it would, yes.

  19. Can I use a Foreman style grill or griddle?

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Sure! Just be sure the chicken gets cooked all the way. You may want to tenderize the chicken to thin it out a big. It will cook faster too that way.

  20. Just a quick question, I have never really cooked with coriander I know how it smells but not how it cooks up. So is this spicy at all? It sounds amazing, but the BF doesn’t do spicy, or rather his stomach doesn’t.

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Kailey – No, coriander is not spicy.
