Blackberry Lemonade For A Summer That Just Won’t End
Whether you appreciate this endless heat or not, it’s always great to have something to drink that is truly refreshing when the heat is at its peak. But sucking down drinks that are riddled with processed sugar rarely quench your thirst. So instead, try this homemade blackberry lemonade.
1. The Ingredients
Gather and measure all the ingredients. This comes together much quicker if you have everything ready to go. Find the full recipe here.
2. Blend The Berries
In a blender or food processor, puree the fresh blackberries until smooth. In theory, you could use a potato masher or a fork too. But a blender does a much better job. Use a spatula to scrape it all out.
3. Strain The Berries
Strain the blackberry puree through a fine mesh strainer to remove any seeds, and collect the blackberry juice in a bowl. Discard or compost the blackberry pulp.
4. The Liquids
Add the water and lemon juice to a large pitcher.
5. Add The Berries
In a large pitcher, combine the blackberry juice, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and all the cups of water. Stir well to incorporate the flavors.
6. Add The Sweetener
Gradually add honey or maple syrup to sweeten the elixir, adjusting the amount according to your desired taste. Remember to taste as you go, as the sweetness levels of the blackberries may vary. Add just enough to compliment the tartness of the berries.
7. Add The Mint
Tear the mint leaves and add them to the pitcher, gently crushing and muddling them with a wooden spoon to release their oils into the lemonade.
8. Add Ice
Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the blackberry lemonade over the ice. Garnish each glass with a few fresh blackberries and a sprig of mint. Find the full recipe here.
