Simple Meals: Clean Eating Low Carb Burgers

Simple Meals: Low Carb Burgers

Low carb burgers are a fast and easy way to get a simple meal on the table.

As many of you know, I’m working my way towards clean, low carb eating, and it really seems to be helping in many, many ways. I have my days where I get off track as all of us do. But overall, I’m sticking to it and really enjoying the benefits. I feel full longer, I don’t worry about fat intake the way I used to, I’m slowly losing some weight, and my blood sugar is in far better shape than it ever was. So no complaints here!

My biggest issue is making sure I have food and that I actually eat it. I’m not as hungry eating this way, but I’ve found that if I skip meals, the weight/fat loss comes to a screeching halt. Have been a clean eater for the past 4 years, you would think that I’d be more inclined to eat frequently. But the truth is, there are times when I really do not want to eat. So it’s certainly an adjustment. But I think in the long run, it will really help me reach my goals.

One of my fallback meals is a low carb turkey burger. Really, you can prepare these a million different ways. If you need a “bun”, portobello mushrooms are fantastic for that, as are larger pieces of lettuce or even slices of larger vegetables such as eggplant or a big zucchini. The possibilities are endless and totally customizable to your tastes. The photo above is my favorite. Something about a little salt and pepper on the tomato really hits a home run for me.

Shelly – I usually just do salt and pepper. But you can also add some garlic powder and even thyme or poultry seasoning.

  2. Ok, I will give it a try. Thank You 🙂

  3. So overwhelmed with what is clean and what is not clean. This picture is mouth watering – but do I spy cheese? If so – can you help me understand? Is this a low card and NOT a clean eating suggestion/idea/picture? Please help!

Emillie – I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you’re asking. Clean eating is about avoiding processed food. Food that has been altered by food corporations for the most part. You can eat low carb and eat clean at the same time. Does that answer your question?

  4. I spy cheese in this pic…..Correct me if I am wrong but I didn’t think cheese was part of a clean eating plan. If it is can you please provide some recommendations or guidelines for choosing a “clean” cheese? Thank you for your help 🙂

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Shelly – Cheese is clean. You want the real stuff. The blocks of cheese with no added coloring. Don’t buy pre-shredded because they add stuff to that. If you need it shredded, shred it at home yourself from the block.
