These chocolate chip cookies are perfect for your sweet cravings!

Far be it from me to try and ruin anybody’s eating plan. But every once in a while, it’s nice to splurge and know you haven’t destroyed your plan completely. Am I right? I mean, if you can splurge and still call it “clean”, isn’t that better than drowning yourself in a bunch of “unclean” foods?

A stack of 3 Clean Eating Chocolate Chip Cookies with a bite taken out of the one on top. The warm chocolate chip that was bitten is oozing down out of the cookie.

So I got a little creative. You see, my favorite cookie in the whole wide world is a chocolate chip cookie. What’s not to love? All that melty chocolaty goodness right out of the oven with a tall glass of milk… oh boy. I’m drooling. Pardon me while I go get a napkin.

There. All better.

Now, I have to tell you that I’m particularly proud of these cookies. Why? I wasn’t sure they were going to work when I first put them in the oven. I started with the recipe I used for Clean Eating Cookie Dough a while back. It was never meant to be baked. But with a couple minor adjustments, it did just fine!

Note: You will probably want to double this recipe due to the small yield. However, if you are just baking for yourself and maybe one other person, the yield should be just fine.

  2. made these last night, to – die – for

the best part, after 2 I was satisfied – even though I ate 3 😉

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Holly – So happy you enjoyed them! But careful, they can get to be a little addictive.

  3. could almond butter substitute for the almonds in the food processor? I don’t have a food processor.

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Clarisse – I wouldn’t. I would just chop them by hand as fine as you can get them.

  4. Tangy @ A Taste of Tangy says:

I just made these (and blogged about it…made a link to your page!) and they really hit the spot!! Mine didn’t quite look like yours but I ended up with 6 cute little cookies. I used walnuts instead of almonds (all I had today!) and 1 packet of stevia in place of the agave/honey and now I kind of want to try this combo next time I cook myself a bowl of oatmeal!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Tangy – Ha! Ya, that would be one fantastic bowl of oatmeal! Thanks for the link!

  5. OMG these are ABSOLUTELY awesome… so easy too! can’t wait to try the German Oatmeal Cookies they seem just as easy! my husband and i are eating clean w/ a cheat every now and then such as this.. even though it isn’t a cheat @ all! but just trying to keep the extra sugar low and to a special time makes it that much more amazing!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Mere – Fabulous! I’m so happy you enjoyed them! Funny how good something tastes when it’s reserved for a special occasion.

  6. These cookies are fantastic! I’ve been making them as my weekly “cheat” treat and I love them! Thank you for making a clean “cheat”, lol! I can’t wait to make these for friends and family during the holidays.

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Katy – Fantastic! They do make for a fabulous cheat! lol

  7. This is the 3rd “treat” I’ve made for my exercise class and of course, your recipes never disappoint! I’m trying to teach them that eating clean is not only a very important component to staying fit, but it can also be very yummy!! Thanks for sharing this!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Ali – That’s fabulous! What a wonderful ( and tasty ) way to teach a good lesson!

  8. I can’t WAIT to make these! I do not have a food processor (yet)… can I mix all the ingredients in my KitchenAid Stand Mixer? Thank you for always having such great reciepes!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Kelly – You may have to mix a little longer, but it should work okay. Enoy!

  9. shirley borgerding says:

made a double recipe of chocolate chip cookies for company and they never came because of the snow. How do I freshen them?

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Shirley – Oh boy. I’ve never had that happen. I would imagine that a few minutes in the oven would help. Make sure the oven is good and hot when you put the cookies in there (350 F.) and leave them in for about 5 minute. Then check them. Hope that helps!

  10. Love the web site!!!

Teaching myself how to cook and decided clean eating is the way to go. 🙂

Quick question my son is allergic to nuts. Any suggestions for a substitute for the almonds?

    Thanks

    Tina

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Tina – I’ve never tried, but you could increase the flour and oats to equal the amounts of nuts (and even a few extra chocolate chips!) . But again, I’ve never tried. Wish I could be more help with this.

  11. I’m so excited to try these!! Will regular whole wheat flour work, or do I have to use pastry flour?

    Thanks!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Karina – It will work, but the cookies will have a slightly coarser texture. Enjoy!

  12. Christine says:

    Hi,
I was wondering if you have ever tried this cookie recipe as a gluten free one? Maybe substituting the whole wheat flour for soy or rice flour? I have a friend who can’t have gluten and so i thought i’d ask! Thanks for your very interesting and funny blogs!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Christine – I have not tried them that way. But I would imagine it might work well with rice flour perhaps. It’s certainly worth a shot!

  13. I made these following your recipe and thought they were a tad too sweet for my tastes. I made them again subbing 3 T. unsweetened applesauce for the agave and they were perfect for me. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Jennie – That’s wonderful! I’m glad you were able to make the recipe work for you! I’m admittedly a sweets lover, so it’s entirely possible that you are not the only person who will find them to be too sweet. But I’m so happy you enjoyed them!

  14. once again…im in luv luv <3. these have to be the best choco chip cookies i have ever eaten. i did use whole wheat flour thoe..worked great. thanks for sharing your talents tiffany. im up to 60 % clean about. trying to covert the whole family but i consider it a work in progress..

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Desiree – That’s wonderful!! I’m glad they worked out with the regular WW flour. Keep up the great work!

  15. Rice flour works great as the whole wheat substitute (as long as it’s not the only flour) but in this recipe it turns out fantastic!!
    Thanks!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Erin – Good to know!! Thanks so much for letting me know!

  16. I have an allergy to almonds. Is there anything that could be used in this recipe (as well as ones that contain almond butter) as a substitute?

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Amanda – Any nuts or nut butters will work for this. Feel free to substitute with something you can have. They should still turn out well. If you can’t find a nut butter made from a nut you can have, simply put some whole nuts in a food processor to make your own. It’s pretty easy.
      Hope that helps!

  17. Hey! I have a challenge for you…I’ve got a craving going for some of those delicious peanut buttery, caramely Scotcharoos and I’m dying to find a cleaner, reduced fat and sugar way of making them! So far I’ve thought up using Kashi whole grain puff cereal in place of rice krispies, and Bell Plantation PB2 in place of the peanut butter..but I’m stumped when it comes to cutting down the sugar and corn syrup to get that really gooey texture that I love…any ideas? Would honey do it? Let me know what you think!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Jaclyn – The best substitute for corn syrup is brown rice syrup. It’s the closest you’ll ever get without using corn syrup. Good luck! Let me know how they turn out!

  18. I have just discovered your blog and I love it!
I made these last night with sultanas instead of chocolate chips and they are delicious. I don’t have a full-sized food processor but this amount fit nicely into my little Braun chopper. One quantity made 12 small cookies, and they are really filling. Can’t wait to try more of your recipes. Thanks!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Maria – Welcome to my blog! I’m so happy you’re enjoying my recipes! Please let me know if you have any questions.

  19. Love the your blog!! I tried this tonight and they didn’t come out correct. They didn’t expand at all. I’ll have to give them another try 🙂

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Jen – They don’t expand a ton. There will be a little spread, but not much. Did they taste okay?

  20. no they didn’t really taste good! After reading all the great reviews, I must of did something wrong…hehe!

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Jenn – Maybe you mismeasured something? I promise, they are worth a second try!
