Worcestershire sauce is a delicious condiment and flavor enhancer that is often used on steaks, in soups, and all kinds of other dishes. But not everyone wants the ingredients it contains.

Why You’ll Want To Make This Worcestershire Sauce Substitute

  1. This version is vegan/plant-based.
  2. It contains no processed sugar. In fact, those who don’t want any sugar at all can even use stevia instead. For those that use them, a low-carb sweetener will work just as well.
  3. While this isn’t as thick as the bottled stuff, it’s fantastic to have on hand for flavoring soups, stews, and more.

What’s In Regular Worcestershire Sauce?

A popular brand lists this on their bottle:
Malt Vinegar (from BARLEY), Spirit Vinegar, Molasses, Sugar, Salt, Anchovies, (FISH) Tamarind Extract, Onions, Garlic, Spices, Flavourings.

If you keep up with nutrition information at all, you know that “flavourings” can often be a a label that hides any number of unwanted ingredients. So who the heck knows what’s in there!
