If you love a good Grimace shake, here is a much healthier, homemade version that will keep the grimace off your face.
The Grimace shake originated at McDonald’s, of all places. It’s a popular fast-food drink that is almost more like ice cream than a shake.

What Is A Grimace Shake?
A Grimace Shake is a limited edition, berry-flavored milkshake sold by McDonalds. It’s based on one of their mascots named Grimace, who is purple. Hence, the purple color of the shake.
What Makes A Grimace Shake A Grimace Shake?
- A distinctive bright purple color.
- A fruity, berry flavor.
- Served with some whipped cream in a clear glass to show off the purple color.

Ingredient Substitutions
Milk Substitutions – Any milk you prefer to use will work here. Oat milk, cow milk, cashew milk… pretty much any milk other than coconut milk, unless you don’t mind the addition of coconut flavor.
Sweeteners – Pretty much any liquid sweetener will work well. Maple syrup or honey works great.
Equipment
A high-speed blender works best here. All the frozen fruit can be tough for slower-speed blenders.

About The Ingredients
Frozen blueberries – No sugar added.
Frozen strawberries – No sugar added.
Frozen blackberries – No sugar added.
Banana – Make sure it’s not overly ripe. In fact, it’s best if there is still a light hint of green on the banana peel.
Raw oats – Regular, traditional oats.
Chia seeds
Unsweetened almond milk – Or any other milk you prefer.
Honey – Or maple syrup. Adjust to taste.
Pure vanilla extract – Not vanilla flavoring.
How To Make A Grimace Shake

Gather and measure all ingredients.

In a blender, combine the frozen blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, bananas, oats, chia seeds, almond milk, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract.

Start blending on low speed and gradually increase to high. Blend until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture is smooth and creamy. Taste the shake and add more honey or maple syrup if desired, adjusting to your preferred level of sweetness. Blend briefly again to incorporate.

Pour the Grimace Shake into glasses. Add a dollop of whipped cream and serve immediately.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
Freezing
This can be frozen, but not thawed. Freeze this in popsicle molds for a healthy, easy dessert.
