What Are Air Fryer Garlic Chips?

Air fryer garlic chips are crispy, crunchy, air-fried slices of garlic. They make a delicious snack or a great addition to other things.

What To Expect From Air Fryer Garlic Chips

Garlic chips should have a very pleasant crunch, similar to potato chips. But they also have a really good, intense, garlic flavor thanks to the air fryer concentrating the flavor. Garlic lovers will adore these.

Why Garlic Chips Are a Good Snack

Flavorful and Satisfying – If you love the flavor of garlic, you don’t want to pass up the chance to enjoy these incredible chips. They have plenty of garlic flavor and go great with a few different types of dip.

Healthy Alternative – Because these are air-fried, they are really low in fat and still contain all the great nutrients and health benefits that garlic has to offer.

Versatile – There are so many ways to enjoy garlic chips that you’ll want to keep a constant supply on hand. They can be eaten with dip, or used in other recipes. I’ll go over more specifics below.

Portion Control – Garlic chips have a pretty strong garlic flavor, so a little can go a long way. You’ll probably find that smaller portions are enough to satisfy any crunchy cravings you have.

What Dips Go Well With Garlic Chips?

Any of these dips will go great with garlic chips:

  • Hummus
  • Guacamole
  • Yogurt-based dips such as tzatziki
  • Salsa
  • Spinach and artichoke dip
  • Baba ganoush
  • Bean dip
  • Queso or nacho dip
  • Pesto dip
  • Vegan ranch dip
  • Garlic aioli or roasted garlic dip

Flavor Variations

You don’t have to eat these plain. You can make flavored variations of these chips pretty easily by using different herbs and spices. Just sprinkle them onto the oiled garlic. Here are some suggestions:

  • Smoked paprika
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme

More Ways To Use Garlic Chips

You don’t have to eat these as chips. There are so many uses for garlic chips. Here are just a few:

  • Soup garnish or soup made from dehydrated vegetables.
  • Pizza topping.
  • Pasta garnish

Choosing The Garlic

Choosing which garlic you use will make a difference in your final garlic chips. If you want a lighter, milder garlic chip, use young garlic. If you want a stronger more intense garlic chip, use older garlic.

Slicing Tips

How you slice your garlic matters as well. If you slice your garlic cloves thinner, you will get more delicate, crispier chips.

If you slice them thicker, you’ll end up with more robust chips, but they may retain a slight chew in their texture.

No matter how you slice them, it’s best to use a mandoline to make sure they are all cut uniformly.

Avoiding Bitterness

This is important – Overcooked garlic becomes bitter. So you will want to keep a very close eye on these the first few times you make them until you learn how your own air fryer manages this recipe. All air fryers tend to cook differently, so while the general instructions below are accurate, you may need to slightly adjust things with your own appliance. All this to say, keep an eye on things.

Important Note

Eating too many of these in one sitting can cause a bit of intestinal distress. Keep your portions relatively small until you know how much you can handle if you eat these as chips with dip.

Cooking Tips

  1. Make sure you shake the basket halfway through cooking to make sure everything cooks as evenly as possible.
  2. Make sure the garlic slices don’t end up clumping in the air fryer. Spread out the slices as much as possible and stir or shake as often as needed to make sure the slices all stay separated.

How To Use Garlic Chips In Salads

Garnish – Sprinkling these on top of a salad will add both crunch and flavor to any salad you add them to.

Add To Dressings – Add garlic chips to vinaigrettes, creamy dressings, or even just to a basic oil and vinegar dressing with a little lemon, salt, and pepper. Let them sit in the dressing for a while to let the flavors infuse into your dressing. You can use them whole or broken/crushed in dressings.

Can Garlic Chips Replace Croutons In Salads?

They sure can! If you want to save the fat and calories found in croutons, you can replace them with some garlic chips. To use them for this purpose, you’ll want to slice them thin. They won’t be as robust as croutons, but they definitely hold their own in a salad.

Should you decide to add these to a salad, make sure you add them just before serving. They can soak up moisture and lose their crunch if they sit in the salad for too long. It’s best to sprinkle these on at serving.

Use them sparingly so you don’t overwhelm the salad with garlic flavor. A little goes a long way with these.

About The Ingredients

Peeled garlic cloves – Read the notes above on how to slice these best.

Avocado oil – You can use olive oil too, but it has a lower smoke point which can contribute to a slightly bitter taste in your garlic chips. It’s nothing that makes them inedible, but it is slightly noticeable.

Typically, they should be kept in an airtight container at room temperature, away from moisture. Include how long they can be stored before they start to lose their crispness.

Freezing is not recommended for this recipe.
