This strawberry salad with shaved chocolate is going to be the highlight of your entire season. I swear. Deep red strawberries that you can smell from the other side of a food market are not to be ignored.

Want more strawberry recipe ideas? Try some strawberry salsa, or maybe a fresh strawberry pie that doesn’t use jello. But if you want more ideas than that, all my strawberry recipes are here.

I found a big crate of these delicious smelling berries at the open market here and could not say no. I did not think that one through… But when a beautiful crate of deep red berries sits in front of you, you just have to bring it home. So I had to come up with a way to use them fast, and this salad was born. It’s like eating chocolate-covered strawberries with a cozy twist.

Pro Recipe Tips

  1. Chop the strawberries relatively small. It makes the salad easier to eat.
  2. Also chop the almonds on the smaller side so the salad isn’t overly crunchy. It’s easier to eat if you have smaller pieces of nuts.
  3. Use as much unsweetened chocolate as you want to use. The recommended amount is just a suggestion. You can add much less or much more if you prefer. Dark chocolate is the better option here for both flavor and health benefits.

Strawberry Salad Variations

If you want to add even more to this, try adding any of the following:

  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract (not vanilla flavoring)
  • 1-2 tbsp. orange or lemon zest
  • Try using pecans or walnuts instead of almonds

How To Serve Strawberry Salad

This is a simple salad, but it looks fancy. You can serve it in champagne glasses if you want to be really fancy, or just small cups or bowls for a more casual setting.

Ingredients You Need For Making Strawberry Salad

Fresh strawberries – Pick the biggest, sweetest, best smelling strawberries you can find.

Chopped almonds – Or any nut you prefer to use.

Plain yogurt – Regular or dairy-free – I used almond-based yogurt.

Sweetener – Any you prefer. You can use honey, maple syrup, stevia, or any other sweetener you are comfortable with.

Ground cinnamon – Not cinnamon sugar.

Unsweetened chocolate – Dark chocolate tastes best here, but any unsweetened chocolate will do. I grated mine easily on a cheese grater. You don’t want to use sweetened chocolate for this. All the sweetness should come from the berries and the dressing.
