This buttery cinnamon oatmeal recipe is the perfect, comforting start to a busy morning.

Mini Chef has been getting mighty picky with food lately. Keeping him fed is no small undertaking. Breakfast is our biggest point of contention simply because there is so much he claims to no longer like.

Clean Eating Buttery Cinnamon Oatmeal Recipe

Given our current living situation, I think it’s important to give him some form of control in his life. So food has been the logical place for me to do that. But at one point, he got so picky that he almost stopped eating breakfast all together. I couldn’t have that.

So I made a big pot of this oatmeal and ate a few bites “mmmmm-ing” and “oh-ing” about how good it was. This convinced him to at least give it a try, and now this has been his favorite go-to breakfast for the past two weeks.

I should mention that I make these slightly different each time I make them because I don’t use any real measurements. I simply make a single serving of oats to package directions and then mix in everything else to taste. But I know you guys like measurements, so the measurements below are a ballpark figure to get you started. Please adjust these oats to your own personal tastes. There is no wrong way to make these and they are delicious every time! In fact, they remind me a lot of the oatmeal with brown sugar I used to get as a kid. Yum!

What You’ll Need

½ cup oats – For the best nutrition, use traditional oats, no quick cooking oats. Cook them to package directions.

1 tbsp. butter – You can add more or less of this. However much gives you a nice buttery flavor is what you should use here.

½ tsp. ground cinnamon – Again, this should be added to taste. If you want more or less, feel free to do so.

1 tsp. pure vanilla extract – Use the real extract here, not vanilla flavoring. Extracts are made with real ingredients while flavorings are made with synthetic ingredients.

1 tbsp. honey – You can use any sweetener you prefer, and add it to taste. 1 tablespoon is just a suggestion. Adjust the sweetener to your tastes.

1 pinch salt – I use pink Himalayan salt, but you can use whatever salt you have handy. The only salt I would avoid is a coarse salt or finishing salt. This isn’t a big pinch. Just enough to bring out the sweetness of whatever sweetener you choose to use.

How To Make Buttery Cinnamon Oatmeal

As mentioned above cook your oats to package directions.

Once your oats are cooked, and while they are still hot, stir in all the other ingredients to taste and enjoy.

        This morning I tried this recipe with kamut flakes in place of the rolled oats. It works beautifully and is just as good as when made with oats. I did double the cinnamon, which also worked well. If anybody wants to do hot cereal with something other than oats, I highly recommend the kamut flakes.

    Made this for breakfast this morning, and really appreciated how simple it is to make and how tasty it is. I would probably double the cinnamon amount you listed the next time I make it. The other thing I might try is browning the butter before mixing it in. Brown butter would add to the richness of flavor. Thank you for a keeper recipe.
