Clean Eating Banana Pops Recipe

It’s a nice thing to fall back on if I really want something sweet as well. Definitely lower carb, but if I’m really craving something sweet, it beats getting off the clean eating track! You don’t even need measurements for this. The ingredient list below is just a suggestion. Have fun with this one!

What Kind Of Bananas Should You Use For Banana Pops?

The best bananas for this particular type of recipe are bananas that are just a hair past the yellow stage. They shouldn’t be totally brown (and definitely not black!), but you don’t want them perfectly yellow either. (And definitely not green!). The ripeness will affect the flavor of your banana popsicles. So choose bananas that are just starting to get some brown spots. Nothing more.

How Long Can You Freeze Bananas?

Peeled bananas, such as in this recipe, will last about two months in the freezer. So you can make a larger batch of these and enjoy them for several weeks!

Banana Pops Topping Ideas

Need more ideas for what toppings to roll bananas in? Here’s a list!

  • Dark chocolate chips
  • Walnuts, chopped
  • Almonds, chopped
  • Pecans, chopped
  • Dried cranberries (fruit juice sweetened is the healthiest. I get them at whole foods)
  • Sprinkles (if you don’t mind the processed sugar)
  • Melted chocolate
  • Ground cinnamon and unprocessed sugar such as Sucanat or coconut sugar

Recipe Variations

You can use pretty much any toppings you like. Here are some examples:

  • Coat the bananas in peanut butter, then dip them in melted chocolate.
  • Dip the bananas in vanilla yogurt, freeze, then dip in melted chocolate and freeze again.
  • Dust the bananas with unsweetened cocoa powder mixed with a clean, granular sweetener such as Sucanat or coconut sugar.

If You Want To Melt The Chocolate

If you want to melt the chocolate, simply use a microwave-safe bowl and microwave the chocolate in 30-second intervals. Stir the chocolate between each interval.

The best way to keep it warm is on the lowest setting on a slow cooker. Dip bananas into the chocolate mixture, or use a spatula to spread it over the bananas if there isn’t enough to dip.

If you have excess chocolate left over after dipping, spread it out on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and freeze it. Once it’s hardened, you can crack it into small pieces again.

About The Ingredients

(Print recipe from recipe card below)

Bananas – Peeled and cut in half.

Nuts – whatever kind you like, chopped.

Dark chocolate chips – I use the Enjoy Life or Lily’s brands. They are the cleanest I can find. But whatever you use, use good quality chocolate. Chop fine.

How To Make Frozen Banana Popsicles

A small pile of peanuts and chocolate chips sitting side by side on a white plate.

Combine the chocolate and nuts.

Hands chopping the peanuts and chocolate chips on a wooden cutting board.

Chop well to make a finely chopped mixture. You can also pulse them together in a food processor.

Hands inserting a popsicle stick into one end of a half a banana.

Peel the bananas and cut them in half. Skewer each banana half in the center through the wider (cut) end of the banana halves.

A half banana being rolled in a nut and chocolate mixture.

Roll the bananas in the chopped mixture. You will have to press the mixture into the bananas as well. Rolling alone won’t get it to stick very well.

A hand placing a banana popsicle on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.

Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper, and freeze for at least 2 hours. Overnight is better.

Note: If you want to be fancy, melt some chocolate and dip the bananas in that. THEN roll them in the nuts.

How Long Will The Banana Pops Last?

These will last up to about 3 months in the freezer.
