If you’d like to have some guidelines for how to convert your own favorite recipes into clean eating versions, here are a few that I follow religiously.

How To Convert Recipes (.pdf)

If you want to convert to clean eating, but the thought of going cold turkey feels a bit overwhelming, here’s a little something to help you convert one small baby step at a time. Before you know it, you’ll be eating 100% clean!

Your Plan for How To Convert To Clean Eating (.pdf)

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how to substitute regular sugar for natural syrups such as honey or agave. Here’s a measurement chart that will help.
(Sorry it’s vertical instead of horizontal. I can’t figure out how to flip it! I guess it’s best if you print it.)

Sugar Substitution Chart – White Sugar (.pdf)

Some of my readers asked me if I could come up with a Clean Eating Shopping List. While this is not an all-inclusive list, it’s pretty much what I buy most weeks. Feel free to add or subtract as you like. It’s just a good starting point to get you going.

Note: For some reason, when I converted this list to a pdf file, it went all screwy on me and added two blank pages at the end. So when you print, save yourself the wasted paper and only print the first two pages.

So many of you have asked me which stores I shop at and what I buy there, that I created a breakdown for you here.

Paulissa – It is fun, isn’t it? I’m loving every minute of it as well. I think that’s a huge aspect of regaining health. It’s supposed to be fun and feel good. That’s the difference between dieting and eating clean!

  • Tammy

Thanks for posting all of recipes! I have been trying to eat clean and make changes to recipes also. Lots of errors before the yummies. Your recipes have helped me out when I have ran out of ideas. Thank you!

I wanted to give you a hint on your spaghetti squash, so you don’t have to wait sooo long. I poke holes in mine and stick it in the microwave for 6 min. take it out then let it cool then cut it in half and make the spaghetti “noodles. “

Thank you for what you are doing here. I just started on the Clean journey and I love that you have so many recipes here. I am really hoping that with this way of eating I can get a lot healthier and shed some weight…..

  • http://www.thegraciouspantry.com The Gracious Pantry

Melissa – You’re welcome! There’s no better way to get healthy than with clean eating. You’ll do great!

  • Lissa

I have been reading alot about clean eating but I am so overwhelmed I don’t know where to start ugh!

  • http://www.thegraciouspantry.com The Gracious Pantry

    Lissa – Start here: http://www.thegraciouspantry.com/clean-eating/

Start with one meal at a time. Cook your normal 3 meals, and cut them in half so you have 6 small meals. Then space them out over the day. Then, look at the meals. Start converting them one ingredient at a time. You don’t have to do it all at once. Just take it one thing at a time. You can always ask questions here. You can do it!

I love your site!! I live way out on our ranch in Montana(closest health store is 90 miles away!) but I have made the commitment to CE and I am learning (from your site) a lot of valuable info to freezing/substituting ing. to everyday recipes. I use this site more than Tosca’s because it is more user friendly and so much more info!! I love the idea of buying in bulk and you even listed the stores and grocery list to follow. This makes my once a month trip to the city so much more organized and helpful when I have a million things to do while having my 4 munchkins with me!!! They LOVE going to TJ’s to help pick out all the healthy stuff! One thing though… we raise beef and I have a freezer full! I was wondering if you could maybe include some beef based recipes? I have substituted some of your recipes with beef, but some just didn’t jive…but I’m not giving up! I have even gotten my husband to branch out and eat some fish and heaven forbid chicken! Thanks for a wonderful site!!! Wendy

  • http://www.thegraciouspantry.com The Gracious Pantry

Wendy – I’m so happy you’re finding my site useful! Thanks!
As for beef recipes, I’ve personally never liked the taste of beef, so I don’t eat it ever. Not for health reasons, I just honestly don’t like the flavor. But I do like Bison and Buffalo. As soon as those come into season (and the prices go down), I’ll make more recipes with that. Any recipe with Bison or Buffalo should be pretty easy to switch with beef. If you haven’t done so already, try my Bison Stew recipe with beef. Should be pretty good!

  • Angie Dawson

You’re grocery list says protein bars. What do you recommend? And/Or what do we look for when buying them?

  • http://www.thegraciouspantry.com The Gracious Pantry

Angie – I liked the Jay Robb bars while I was eating dairy. But since I’ve given that up, I haven’t found any new ones that I like. There’s something called a Green Bar too that is really good and clean. Hope that helps!

  • WWCook

Thank you for your so helpful and informative site. I love it. I just saw and saved/printed the “How to convert recipes” and the “substitution chart” They both are so helpful. Your recipes are easy to make and with ingredients I can easily find here in Greece.
Thanks for all you have done here.

  • http://www.thegraciouspantry.com The Gracious Pantry

WWCook – You’re in Greece!!! Lucky you! Enjoy!

  • Mandi

Wow….thank you, thank you for all of this info and making it so easy to understand!! I have just started my journey and am looking forward to a long healthy life :)

  • http://www.thegraciouspantry.com The Gracious Pantry

Mandi – That’s wonderful!! I really believe this is the only way to eat. Especially if you want to be healthy! Enjoy!

  • Sarah

I’m about 50% clean eater due to not eating red meat, lots of veggies, fruits, only whole grains, etc. But want to up it even more. Your blog is so helpful!!!

Question about breads…I like to do sandwiches because they’re easy for lunch and I don’t usually have time to heat up food (I’m an elementary teacher.)

    What the cleanest breads?

  • http://www.thegraciouspantry.com The Gracious Pantry

Sarah – The best bread I’ve found is a brand called Alvarado Street Bakery. It’s an excellent bread and it’s very clean. There are several different types to choose from as well. Hope that helps!

  • Jodi

Environmental Working Group has their (2011) clean 15 and dirty dozen list out. You can see the whole list (you know, number 13 etc.) Last year there were 49 fruits and vegs tested. This year they have 53. I printed it to hang on my cabinet to remind me when I make my shopping list which ones need to be organic.

  • Anonymous

Jodi – That’s great! I’ll have to add the link here. Thanks for the reminder!

Carla – Brown rice syrup is found in most health food stores. Maple syrup would have just about the same conversion rate as agave. Hope that helps!

  • Johna629

This is such a tremendous help – just what I was needing to start my journey into clean eating – thank you!

Johna – You’re welcome! I hope you enjoy all the info!

Rogetsfit – You’re welcome! Welcome to my site!

Jenny – Welcome to clean eating! I think you’ll find that it’s a wonderful way to eat. I have found myself that if you don’t make a big fuss about it, the guys rarely notice. They are just happy to eat. Try a few meals without telling him the difference and see if he notices.
