Raw Oats

If you get sick of getting hungry not too long after you’ve had a smoothie for breakfast, then oats are your answer. Adding even a small amount of oats to a smoothie will help keep you full much longer.

Why?

Because raw oats will expand in your tummy, giving you that full feeling we all want from a smoothie. It doesn’t really change the flavor, but it does change the satiety.

And yes, raw oats are perfectly fine to eat. Muesli anyone?

What You’ll Need For This Mango Oatmeal Smoothie

1 cup cottage cheese

⅓ cup milk (more as needed to reach desired consistency)

1 tbsp. honey (optional if needed. Add to taste)

¼ cup raw, uncooked traditional oats (quick oats give the best texture but are a bit more processed than whole oats)

Yay! I have mangoes in the freezer. I might switch out the cottage cheese for some Greek yogurt since that’s what I most often have on hand, though. I’m trying to expand my breakfast and lunch repertoire for my daughter. Seems like I suffer from the summer slide as much as any kid when it comes to feeding her during the school year. lol

When you speak of “clean” cottage cheese, do you have a brand in mind? What are you looking for in one exactly? thank you.

    1. The Gracious Pantry says:

Coye – I haven’t actually found one yet, so it’s hard for me to say. But some readers have told me that they did find some in their areas. I just don’t know the brands. Next time it comes up I will ask.

  3. Coye Hoth, I eat Daisy Cottage Cheese. Ingredients are cultured skim milk, cream & salt. The low fat has vitamin A palmitate. It’s the only one I’ve found that doesn’t have other stuff in it.

      Tonya – Thanks so much!

  4. You can use rolled oats. Just blend them by themselves first, then add the rest of the ingredients and blend again.

      Tina – Good to know!
