Shawna - That's great! It's funny though. I made my son's food in a blender. So it was really smooth, and now, that particular texture makes him gag. LOL. Not sure if there's a connection or not. But I still stand by making your own baby food. As far as I'm concerned, it's the only way to feed a baby. But I'm a little biased that way.

A ricer is a great utensil to invest in. Putting the steamed vegies or fruit through it produces a smoother texture. I made a lot of Lili's baby food when she was a baby. She loved it!

Jercy - A small pat of butter and a little milk go a long way to making it smooth when you blend it. You can also use a small amount of water which is what most baby food manufacturers use.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the encouragement. I know all this is true. It just seems like an uphill battle sometimes. I know that I am doing the right thing now so I will just keep pushing forward. Thanks again! I can't wait to try some of your recipes.

Daphne - It's NEVER to late. If you can slowly transition your child to healthier foods, any "damage" ( use that word very loosely) done is totally repairable! DO NOT beat yourself up!

As parents, we do the best we can. To look back and beat yourself up for the things you did in the past simply because you didn't know any better is futile at best. The only thing that matters is what you do NOW!

Talk to your child about health and why it matters. Transition him/her slowly. You WILL see the difference. And once you do, you'll be patting yourself on the back instead of kicking yourself.

YOU ARE A GREAT MOM! Never doubt that. You made the best decisions you could with the information you had. You're doing great. Never look back because forward is the only direction you can go anyway.

I've always thought that people that made their own baby food were crazy. Now that I am learning so much about nutrition it makes total sense. My child has always had weight problems. Nutritionally, I did all the wrong things. The guilt is pretty strong sometimes. If I could only do things over..... I guess it's better late than never to try to do the right thing.
